Comedy Websites vs. Humor Websites
In the world of 'funny' websites, there are two very separate and distinct camps.
'Comedy' websites like Punchline Magazine, Dead-Frog, and Stage Time Magazine interview comics, provide commentary on the comedy industry, and break news about what comedians are up to. They're indispensable sites that we couldn't live without, but their audience is generally made up of comics and truly hard-core comedy fans.
'Humor' websites like CollegeHumor, FunnyOrDie, and Break post videos, pictures, and articles that will give people a laugh, including the hot new content that everyone is talking about. They aren't specifically interested in stand-up and sketch comedy any more than they are the latest sports blooper or crazy Japanese game show clip. Nevertheless, 'humor' websites generally have a much larger reach than 'comedy' websites.
The irony is that, demographically, 'comedy' websites and 'humor' websites basically share the same target audience. Comedy wonks who enjoy 'comedy' websites are also likely to enjoy the latest face plant video, and viral video fans who enjoy 'humor' websites are very likely to go see a comic they've been exposed to and like.
Helping Good Comics Find Their Audience
When Brian and I started ChuckleDumper.com, we did it with the goal of bridging that gap between 'comedy' fans and 'humor' fans. We post, on average, around 20 new links each day. We cruise all the major 'comedy' AND 'humor' websites – over 50 different domains – each day to find stuff that's worth putting up. We mix it up between viral videos, stand-up comedy, industry news, news of the weird, and anything else that makes us laugh. And we've gotten very good at finding and posting content before the other websites – sometimes by hours or days.
Our thought is that by integrating elements of both a 'comedy' website and a 'humor' website into ChuckleDumper.com, we can expose 'humor' fans to the comedy we know they'll love.
The Challenge
Our biggest challenge is that we're forced to run ChuckleDumper on a shoestring budget. Most (all?) of the big 'humor' websites out there are owned by corporations, so they're able to afford fancy stuff like employees and advertising. We can't. We're trying to get the word out as best as we know how, but we could really use your help.
Check out our site to see if you dig what we're doing. We're proud of it, the comics we've talked to love it, and we're pretty sure you'll enjoy it too. If that's the case, be a pal and tell a couple of friends. Throw us up in your top eight or send out a bulletin about ChuckleDumper. Or repost this bulletin. Anything that you can do to help out is really appreciated.
Brian and I have no idea what the future of ChuckleDumper.com will look like, but we can say one thing with absolute certainty: As ChuckleDumper grows, so does its ability to help undiscovered comics find their audience, and that's what the site has been about from the beginning. Thanks for the help.

Traffic
Eventually, we'll have our traffic data right here as a handy reference for advertisers and users who give a crap. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out how to do this yet, but I'm working on it.
